Few to the expiration of his tenure as Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, President General, Olorogun Moses Taiga has revealed his joy in leading and serving the fifth ethnic nationality as its leader for the last six years.
Speaking to newsmen at his country home in Okpare, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta state, he said, “My administration for the last six years has been smooth and i am glad that in next one month, it is going to be smooth transition to another new administration.
According to Olorogun Taiga, “The Pope do not prepare for his successor, the Cardinal invokes thier rights and appoint a successor and it is what you have done, if you led well, you go away successfully and the next person will emerge and take over from you.
“There is no preparation for the outgoing person, when we came in, nobody prepares the ground for us, we campaigned, we won.
“And i expect those who are preparing for the leadership of the Urhobo nation which is very to tell us about their preparation and i will be happy for the person who wins the election to be properly installed.
On his challenges he said, “There are no challenges in leading the Urhobo nation as it is a joy to lead them, there are no peculiar challenges that are peculiar to the Urhobo nation.
“The only challenges are similar to the other tribes in the country that are happening to the survival of the nation.
“The hunger that is on the land, killing of people which is a problem, and security issues is not peculiar to the Urhobo nation but they are common to all tribes in the country today.”
On 2023 election, the UPU president general said, It is my prayer that there should be an election that is backed by justice and we hope that there should free, fair election and INEC should conduct it in a way that would make everybody to be happy.
And my charge to my Urhobo people is that we should not fight ourselves but take election as a normal life, if you win, good but if you loose, wait for another day.
“While we are aware that security is in the hand of the people that provide security, we have be careful and whoever that would be ruling the people should take security as a serious affairs”
